Also see Heinrich/Lorentz genealogy for more NY information
to correct some mis information and to question material I have
seen posted, I have the following:
Lorentz Schweitzer m. 1775 to Sybilla Catherine Callum b.
1755 York Co
Source: History of Adams Co. Pa (formed from York which was formed from
Lancaster)
daughter: Elizabeth b. 1775 York m. J.Lehmer
John Sweitzer's research lead him to believe that this Lorentz leaves NY with
his brother Heinrich and comes into Pa. Lorentz settles in around Germantown, in
1714-1716 in Skippack Twp, living in Hanover before 1730, and in Worchester Twp
with son Jacob and Henry. John also thinks this Lorentz was affiliated
with the Brethern group in Chester. He purchased Land, 1200 Acres in Oley
Valley with Peter Wentz on Nov 25, 1738. This record comes from "The
Bretheren in Colonial America" by Donald Durnbaughy p. 53, Alexander Mack
p. 599-600
It is hard to tell exactly which Lorentz is the one from NY as many appear in
the Philadelphia area. Below are a list of some.
A Lorentz Schweitzer d. 1738 Chester Co. Pa
A Lorentz Schweitzer d. 1746 Germantown
A Lorentz Schweitzer d. 1776 who married a Mary Elizabeth His

A Lorentz Schweitzer d. April 10, 1749 Pa Chester Co.
A Lorentz b. 1740
A Lorentz b. 1781
A Lorentz b. Aug 26, 1680 Switzerland died at age 95
(1775/1776 death) maybe the one above married to Mary Elizabeth.
Another Lorentz is said to have left for Va to live with
his son Philip. This maybe the son of Heinrich of NY who went south and visited
his uncle Heinrich in MD in 1728. A Lorentz has a son Philip b. 1739
There is a Lorentz Schweitzer m. Sybilla Catherine Callum New
Hanover Luthern Church, Adams Co Pa (probably Lancaster or York at that
time). They have children:

As A personal note* I'm wondering if Lorentz is the Hans Schweitzer of
Chester Co. A Mary Pennock sold 100 Acres to Hans Schweitzer and his
daughter Mary Lefebre of Bristol twp. (Members of Wentz church Vol 5,

- HANK JONES
HENRICH
SCHWITZELER OF OFFENBACH
The
first information discovered on the emigrant Palatine
Henrich
Schwitzeler was found, during recent research by Wayne
V.
Jones, in 1706 at Offenbach. This is a
lovely
village located six kilometers east of Landau in the
Pfalz.
This translated document reads:
"Item
~ acre meadow, at the lower meadows bordering
to
and fro, at the upper side to HENRICH SCHWITZLFR,
at
the lower side to the outer boundary of the community.
Another
1706 record reads:
"Wendel
Schmitt, burgomaster formerly Christoph Trautt
;
Annual
dividend of 2 florins. Capitol: 2 kreuzers rent.
‑
Also one half Morgen (1 morgen equals o.6 to 0.9 acre)
of arable land, situated at the Nleder Sandt; bordering
on its upper side Jacob Chun's heirs, on its lower side
the community, on its left side the Stabler estate,
on its right side Henrich Schwitzler's estate for proparty."
These aforementioned land records appear to be the only
two which
mention
Henrich Schwitzeler at Offenbach; the church records
which might help add data on the emigrant are long missing.
The Schwitzler family was not native to Offenbach.

SCHWITZELER PG 2
Heinrich's
family were members of the Swltzeler family of Elsau (Ellsanw
et van),Switzerland. Mr. Wayne Jones, in his fine research, reports
that Family Registers at Elsau mention several Schwitzeler
families including ~ Heinrich Schwitzler-Weidman who died in
1673, and one born in 1667 who died in 1681 (neither of whom,
of course, can be our 1709er). An old 1667 certificate in the
Elsau parish books granted a birth certificate to Rudolph
Schwitzler, son of Martin Schwitzler and Anna Peter, who was
baptised at "Ellsauw" on 9 February, 1634. "One
year ago he
had settled down at his house at Offenbach in the Electorate
Palatinate
with wife and children." Thus the Swiss roots of
this branch of the Offenbach Schwitzelers may be pinpointed
at Elsau. The Elsau registers show that "Rudj Schwitzler
and
wife Barbara Grutterij" had children Anna, bapt. 1664, and
Barbara, bapt. 1665 there.
One other possible source to the parentage of Henrich
Schwitzeler of Offenbach is evidence that an Abraham
Schwitzler lived at Morlheim (also part of the Reformed
parish of Offenbach) as early as 1661, and had a son Michael
baptised there 1 August, 1669. In all likelihood, this
Abraham Schwitzeler was from Elsau also, but there is no
proof.
Henrich
Schwitzeler, our emigrant to America, was recorded on the Rotterdam
1709 Embarkation Lists as "Henrig Switseler and vrouw,
4children." He was then recorded 1710 on the
|

Subsistence
Lists (NY)of Gov. Robert Hunter. He was naturalized as "Hegmerick
Sowreshler~ at Kingston, Ulster CO., N.Y. of 8 and 9 September, 1715
(Ulster Co. Deed Book). The Simmendinger Register, published in
Germany in 1717 at Reutllngen, mentioned "Heinrich Schwitzler,
wife and children' living at Heessberg."
It
is probable that the wife of the 1709er Henrich Schwitzeler was
Elizabeth Bruce, as they were sponsor at Kingston, Ulster Co. to the
child of Jacob Welleeven and Maria Elisabeth Swisselaar (their
grandchild) 1 July, 1722 (Kingston Ref).

A Heinrich Schweitzer came out of NY and traveled south. We are unsure
if this is a son of Heinrich or brother Lorentz Schweitzer. Heinrich
settles in old Baltimore Co. MD and has four sons. Heinrich buys land in
Lancaster from the Penn brothers from an add in the newspaper around 1732.
Story has it, that he traveled to Lancaster to the new land and was shortly
driven out by indians. It is uncertain if he returns to Maryland or just
some of the four sons.
Three of the son's names:
John Schweitzer b. 1720c.
Lawrence b.
Henry
All three brothers above are listed in 1734 Land tax of Baltimore MD.
It is possible that this area later became Frederick Co.or later Carroll Co. Md
because Baltimore Co. was hugh at this time.
Notes on Heinrich from John Sweitzer of texas
Heinrich arrived 1709 NY, wife and four children died on Staten Island at a
fever camp. Heinrich married Elizabeth Bryre 1712 Kingston NY. He and brother
Lorentz Schweitzer stayed in NY until 1717 when they traveled south to
Northampton Co. Pa. Not liking it there Heinrich moved on to Old Baltimore
Co. Maryland by 1720. His son John was b. 1720 Old Baltimore Co. MD.
Between 1729-1731 Heinrich purchased 400 Acres in Lancaster from an ad in the
Newspaper put out by the Penn brothers. He and four sons went to Lancaster
in 1732 but were soon driven out by the Indians. They retreated to Philadelphia
where they making guns. John's notes say that using a water hammer mill they
made Steel shotgun barrels.
It is unknown as to weather the sons of Heinrich returned to Maryland or not.
A Heinrich b. 1710 buried two children in 1740 in the Moravian Church in
Lancaster Pa.
(Pg. 392 Pa Vital records) This church has early Heinrich's, wives and
children buried in the actual basement of the church.
Lorentz arrived 1710 in NY. A document from the queen of England is
signed for their becoming citizens in NY state. It states; " this
family, via Holland, England made their way to the new world, where they arrived
sometime 1709, in the city of New York" It has Lawrence Schwisser
listed, his wife Anna Catherine (who is a Fever/Lefever because she's traveling
with her parents) and a son John. Also listed is Isaac Feber, his wife
catherine and their son Abraham. ( New York arrival 1709, The Reprint Co.,
